About Opal Seabrook

A self-confessed glass nerd with an endless imagination and excitement for her work, Opal began her glass career in stained glass techniques in 2005. Prior to this, Opal had refined techniques in other mediums such as pencil art and portraiture, caricatures, and complex painting on glass.

Through testing her ideas against traditionalist views, Opal developed her skills into fusing techniques, designing and creating intricate and quirky glass art.

Opal’s ever-evolving style is inspired by a wide range of sources, including tattoo, comic, pop art, nature, photography, and art in its wider context. Using techniques such as airbrushing, powder printing, freehand painting, and sgraffito prior to kiln firing, Opal incorporates other materials alongside glass to ensure her creations are truly unique.

Since 2013, Opal has been a vital member of Herts Visual Arts (HVA), including being a member of the HVA Organising Group along with being the Area Coordinator for Opal’s hometown until 2021.

Opal leads various classes around England, and her work is exhibited in galleries and found in private collections across the globe; exhibitions and events include the Childwickbury Arts Fair and Childwickbury Christmas Market since 2014, along with the British Glass Biennale 2019, the Contemporary Glass Society’s Celestial Bodies exhibition 2019 (winner of the People’s Prize), and the National Liberty Museum’s annual Glass Auction and Gala in 2020 and 2021.

Selected for the British Glass Biennale 2022, the flagship exhibition of the International Festival of Glass, Opal also exhibited at further exhibitions and events during the festival in August, including the Contemporary Glass Society’s Holiday Heaven exhibition in which she was a winner in the Highly Commended category.
